Field Study - Developing a Successful Wine Festival
This Field Study will examine how the Bedford Wine Trail, Bedford and Lynchburg Tourism programs and Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest partnered to create a new wine festival that was held in November of 2009. The result was a highly-successful event that attracted twice the attendance they had targeted to get for the first year. It also brought tourists into the region during a traditionally “down time.” This Field Study will include a brief visit to the site of that event — Thomas Jefferson’s private retreat, Poplar Forest, which he designed and built in Bedford while he was President.
